Mitchell Peter is a certified personal trainer with four years of experience and leads the Kettlebell Fitness class at Baltimore Martial Arts Academy in Catonsville. He holds a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and a black belt in Shorin-Ryu Karate, and he specializes in athletic strength and conditioning, weight loss and injury prevention.
Mitchell started martial arts for the same reasons many of our members do: he wanted a form of exercise that would help him lose weight, and he wanted to learn to defend himself. Combat sports and getting in shape improved his health, mentally and physically, and that is what he wants to pass on. His aim is to inspire the people he coaches to improve themselves.
He still trains here himself, in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai, alongside teaching the kettlebell class and working with personal-training clients.
Every rep in the room gets coached. The weight is scaled to the person in front of him, the hinge and the swing are taught from the ground up before anyone loads them, and the pace is honest — hard enough to change you, never careless. Beginners and experienced lifters train in the same class and both get what they came for.
