Kids Tae Kwon Do

If you are searching for kids Tae Kwon Do in Catonsville, here is an honest answer before you drive anywhere.

We teach Kids Karate, not Tae Kwon Do — and for most families that is the same thing

Tae Kwon Do and karate are cousins. Both are traditional striking arts taught in a uniform with a belt system. Both drill stances, blocks, punches, kicks and forms. Both run on the things parents are actually shopping for: discipline, respect, focus, confidence, and a child who is tired in a good way by bedtime.

Tae Kwon Do leans harder into high and spinning kicks and has an Olympic sport-sparring side. Karate keeps the hands and the feet closer to even. Standing in the doorway watching a class, most parents cannot tell them apart — and for a six-year-old learning to stand still, make eye contact and try something difficult in front of other people, the difference does not matter.

What your child would actually do here

Kids Karate runs for ages 7 and up on Wednesday evenings. Classes are grouped by age across the school — age 3, ages 4–6, ages 7–9 and ages 10 and up — so your child trains with others at their own stage rather than in a room spanning a decade of development.

If what drew you to Tae Kwon Do was the kicking, look at Kids Muay Thai. It is the most kick-heavy program we run, taught on pads and bags with control and no head contact.

If what drew you to it was discipline and self-defense that works, Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is our largest children’s program. There is no striking in it at all, which is why a lot of parents who started out looking for a striking art end up there.

Come look at a class

You do not have to decide from a website. Your child’s first week is free — up to three classes — and you are welcome to sit and watch all of it. See the class schedule for age-specific days and times, read the FAQ, or call 410-465-7799 and we will tell you which class to come to.

We are at 6565 Baltimore National Pike in Catonsville, on Route 40 about two miles west of the Beltway, with free parking.
