Pedro Sauer Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Professor Pedro Sauer

Master Pedro Sauer

Certified 8th Degree Red/Black Belt Instructor under Rickson Gracie.

Personal History

Professor Pedro Sauer was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where from an early age, he began training in the martial arts. At age five, he began boxing and later took up judo and taekwondo. At age fifteen, however, his friend, Rickson Gracie, invited him to train jiu-jitsu with his younger brother, Royler, who at the time was only nine years old. The outcome of this experience convinced him that jiu-jitsu was the most effective of all the martial arts, and he began training the very next day.

Pedro worked towards a double major (Economics and Business Administration) in college, and took post graduation course at Fundacao Getulio Vargas. He worked in Brazil as a stockbroker for eleven years before deciding to move to the United States and pursue a career teaching jiu-jitsu. In 1990, he moved to California with the original wave of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructors. He lived in California with Rickson Gracie and trained daily with the Gracie brothers (Rickson, Rorion, and Royce), their father, Helio Gracie, their cousin, Renzo Gracie, and the Machado Brothers, as well as many others. In December of that same year, he moved to Utah where he has lived for the past eight years, pioneering brazilian jiu-jitsu in the American southwest.

Military Dad – Baltimore Martial Arts

I would highly recommend Baltimore Martial Arts Academy for many reasons and from a couple different view points.

As a student – Gary Berger and his staff are experts instructors not only in martial arts but fitness of both mind and body. I have been in the military for 21 years, have lived all over the world and have never seen a gym with so many different courses of instruction. Such a wide array and blending of talent is hard to find and almost impossible in a single school. Patient and professional – I have found these instructors to look at the individual and tailor classes to student needs and goals. The plethora of instructors is simply amazing. I have 3 Aikido instructors my son has 5 different jujitsu instructors and my daughter has 2 different kickboxing instructors – getting all of there collective strengths and experiences – class never gets boring or routine.

As a father – I have two teenagers attending Baltimore Martial Arts Academy and can not imagine a better environment for an extracurricular activity. My Son has attained his black belt in mixed martial arts and is working on belts in both judo and straight jujitsu. He is on the competition team and has competed nationally in numerous grappling and judo competitions – qualifying this year for the judo junior nationals this summer. It has been a great outlet for teenage aggression for both kids and has shown them a positive way to harness energy that would be otherwise wasted. His skills will serve him well in high school as he plays football and wrestles. My Daughter is working on a belt in mixed martial arts and taking kickboxing classes. Not the competitor her brother is I have found the discipline and fitness she is learning will carry on through her entire life. As a father it is good to know that my daughter can defend herself and walks with a confidence that
she may otherwise have not found. My children are the most important thing in my life and my greatest legacy – I feel blessed to have found this gym with such a large group of both male and female role models to help me raise my children and instill the values we all find so lacking in the world today. It is refreshing to find a place where integrity, honor, respect and discipline are not only preached but taught, practiced and expected.

All in all I was lucky or destined to find Baltimore Martial Arts Academy. I have found a family that cares about me and my families well being. I hope all of you are as lucky.

No-gi BJJ and MMA in Catonsville

Many BJJ students take 2-3 classes per week. We offer gi classes, BJJ with a uniform, and no-gi BJJ classes which do not involve a uniform. No-gi BJJ practitioners can wear t-shirts and shorts or Under Armor apparel. No-gi jiujitsu is also great for improving your MMA game. In fact, our MMA competitors include Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, especially no gi jujitsu, into their regular MMA training. Charles Gamble, one of our MMA competitors, recently won a unanimous three round decision at XFE’s Cage Wars 4 “Jingle Brawl” on December 10th in Boothwyn, PA. Charles’ win was directly attributed to his ground game no-gi BJJ. He ended up mounting his opponent while landing strikes for almost a minute as the third round came to an end.

Brazilian Ju-Jitsu is easy to learn. It’s almost as intuitive as climbing a tree. This might sound ridiculous, but Jiu-Jitsu is a tactical martial arts which requires a sense of touch and proprioception. Compared to dodging a punch to your face, grabbing and restraining a person is much easier. Since BJJ is so easy to learn, it doesn’t take long to develop significant skill. Kids take to it very easily. We have about one hundred kids in our junior BJJ program and is one of the most popular at our school.

Bully Proof BJJ in Catonsville

Bully Proof is a BJJ system which was recently developed by the Gracie Academy, the most prestigious BJJ organization in the world. We incorporate many of the Bully Proof concepts into our junior BJJ program. Bully Proof was designed to teach kids BJJ in a safe and FUNmanner. Many of our kids compete in BJJ tournament across the nation. We frequent NAGA, North American Grappling Association, Grapplers Quest, The Good Fight and many other reputable tournaments.
