Junior Wrestling at Baltimore Martial Arts
Youth wrestling is offered at Baltimore Martial Arts in Catonsville, Maryland. Wrestling is a sport that builds character helps improve one’s speed and agility, as well as builds strength and stamina. There is no better way to get in shape than to wrestle a tough opponent for six minutes.
Our youth wrestling program is for children ages 4-12 and is taught by qualified and distinguished wrestlers. Our wrestling coaches know what it takes to teach children the skills that they will need to be competitive. Some of our kids are completely new to wrestling and some wrestle in outside leagues. Our children’s wrestling classes will help them with the fundamentals as well as keeping competitors sharp during the off season.
Baltimore Martial Arts’ children’s wrestling program also works in conjunction with our children’s Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and Judo classes. Brazilian Jujitsu and Judo are martial arts which heavily involve wrestling. While the rules are different in each discipline, both benefit from lessons learned in wrestling. Wrestling is known for its drills and conditioning as well as teaching aggressiveness. Often the advantage goes to the person who can attack first which is something wrestling emphasizes. Being in great shape allows the wrestler to control the pace of the match which is another advantage. If the opponent is stronger, technique must be used in order to prevail which is a tactic implemented by wrestling, jujitsu and Judo.
Attitude and good sportsmanship in kids wrestling go hand in hand when it comes to development of a junior wrestler. Youngsters should learn to never overreact to calls made by the referee or what the crowd may be yelling. The youth wrestler should never be afraid to lose. Fear of losing causes the wrestler to hesitate and react rather than act which sometimes gives the edge to the opponent. Win or lose one thing should be stressed, always try your best and respect your opponent.
Wrestling builds character, so if you’re looking for away to help your kids build character and build their self esteem, get your child involved with wrestling.
